I was visiting Francesca Zammarano at UNIS the other day and we came up with a neat idea - have students make short videos for each tool and skill and post them on QR code stickers on or by the tools themselves. This would allow kids to explore tools at their own pace and might free up the teacher from explaining how to strip a wire ten times during a session, for instance. Aside, making the videos is a great design project for students. They’ll have to learn the tool or skill really well and think about structuring the information. The best part is that all of us here on this list could have our kids contribute and build a great library of quick how-to videos: soldering, using a drill press, sewing a zipper, etc etc. We might develop some guidelines- I expect we want videos to be subtitled, for instance. We could say no faces to avoid privacy issues. We can post the videos to youtube, hopefully using ad-free school accounts.
Any interest in this?
Best
