Hi All,

I've been wanting to jazz up one of my walls with some vinyl decals and the name of my school's maker program. I normally use Oracal brand vinyl for anything on our vinyl cutter, but I've found the adhesive will peal the paint off the drywall if I needed to remove it later down the road.

Does anyone know of a low tack/paint safe vinyl? It also may not have to be a question of the vinyl and rather priming the wall with something to protect it. Open to suggestions.

Cheers,
Chris Bass

Hi Chris,

I've yet to find a removable vinyl that doesn't pull acrylic paint off a wall. Even the Circuit Smart Removable vinyl, which they say can be used on painted walls, pulls paint off. I've tried it on a variety of paint brands on even professionally primed and painted surfaces. I've had a little luck using a heat gun on low to remove vinyl with minimal paint damage, but even that gave mixed results.

Oracal makes a removable version (631). I bought some but haven't actually put it on painted walls (also every painted surface is different anyway.)

I'd recommend getting some and doing a small test in a discrete corner.
