Our school has a four-point mission statement that we have adapted for our MakerLab:

Tabor's Mission:
To inspire a life-long love of learning
To instill a passion for the highest standards of achievement
To encourage personal responsibility
To foster care for others and committed citizenship

Tabor MakerLab Mission:
To inspire a life-long love of learning
LEARN new skills. Cool tools and concepts are all around you.
If you want to try them out, ASK.
To instill a passion for the highest standards of achievement
MAKE a thing, then MAKE IT BETTER.
To encourage personal responsibility
SAFETY is paramount. Make sure you know how to use the tool safely and then DO IT.
USE your INITIATIVE.  You can FIGURE things OUT.
To foster care for others and committed citizenship
RESPECT your fellow MAKERS and the MAKERLAB.
Work with and around each other safely.
CLEAN UP after yourself and PUT AWAY your TOOLS.

Hi Jeff,

Rebels Makerspace current mission statement goes something like this:

To develop a community of staff and students at Burnaby South Secondary who are passionate about making and tinkering by providing open access to tools, workshops, and resources. Furthermore, we strive to use making as a means to give back to our school and local community.

Here is the mission statement for a newly renovated multi-use makerspace at the MIT Edgerton Center

The Edgerton Center Student Project Lab is a workshop/makerspace for a variety of communities to engage in experiential learning.  The shop is a place for community members to tinker, experiment, design, build, learn, and have fun while doing it.

The space is designed to provide inspiration and promote inquiry, while encouraging community and collaboration.  Tools and materials are available to support projects that involve combinations of mechanical, electronic, artistic, and musical elements.

The intended uses include:

·         Project lab for MIT students and high school students engaged in informal project work

·         Workshop space for guest programs and for Professional Development classes.

·         Classroom space for scheduled classes and programs including electronics, freshman seminar, and a variety of other classes.

·         Classroom/workshop for summer programs

Hope this helps,

Diane
