MORE ABOUT OUR  MISSION AND WHAT TO EXPECT:

The Fab Play Maker Educator Institute is an annual gathering of like-minded creative spirits who just so happen to work in education. During this transformative week, we will elevate one another’s crafts, hone our skillsets, immerse ourselves in a fabrication environment and hands-on experiential learning, prototype new ideas, practice new machining techniques, connect as a network, share our challenges and best practices, and work together to move Maker Education forward.

Our Annual flagship Conference, now in its 6th year, is located at Hawken School’s beautiful campus and Fab Lab just outside Cleveland, Ohio. We encourage all educators, administrators, and practitioners of Maker Education, as well as those new to makerspaces and looking to establish a program, to attend. All levels of experience are welcome; you will leave with invaluable resources for teachers looking to build on prior success, and those designing their curriculum for the first time. This year’s Institute will feature many familiar segments repeat attendees have come to know and love, as well as new materials we’ve developed this year focusing on best practices in physical safety while working in makerspaces. We will also lean into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and prepare ourselves for ways it can enhance our own craft of teaching and learning. Finally, join us around a campfire, on a brisk morning jog, or up in the ropes course as we consider ways to foster and build Experiential Learning (EL) experiences.

Frequent Session Topics:

  • Setting up Makerspaces
  • PBL & Design Thinking in the K-5 Classroom
  • Improvisational Design & Mindset
