Hello David,
We use Boxy SVG a lot at Duke School with Middle School students and teachers. I've found it to be a really good introductory program. Most recently we had a student create their own design and print the fabric at Spoonflower http://www.spoonflower.com/ she will be making a skirt out of it. I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has.
Thanks,

Wow. Thank you for sharing this. We are moving to 1:1 Chromebooks so looking for a good vector draw solution apart from Illustrator on the lab machines. Also just started exploring gravit.io but some students are having some sign up and login difficulties on their Chromebooks.

I just tested it.  This works on Macs or Chromebooks.  Streamlined interface, user adjustable keyboard shortcuts, editable shapes with adjustable fill and stroke, line tools that include the ability to draw bezier curves, and path tools with the ability to intersect, unite, subtract, or exclude.

Those are all powerful conceptual graphic design tools.  Being able to introduce these staples of vector graphics with a simple, free tool, that's administratively easy to install and update is a huge win for schools with tight budgets.

The only missing features/functions I see so far are snap constraints, alignment, and dimensioning.  If the app author adds those, this will become powerful enough to use with CAD tools like laser cutters without an intermediary.

Thanks so much for posting this, David!  I'm pushing it out to our school's Chromebooks right away.

Thanks David,

It's great to have more options in this space..."Google Drawings" is also a simple option given it can export to .svg...If boxy adds snap constraints, alignment, and dimensioning that would be a game changer.

Best,
Gary
