Hello friends,
I recently joined your community and I feel like I really found my tribe! I have a short introduction and a question as well.
I am the owner and founder of Wicked Workshop Youth Architecture Program. Wicked Workshop is a maker-based experience that introduces youth to the building blocks of architecture through decision-making strategies, complex problem solving, and critical thinking methods recognized as vital 21st century skills necessary to succeed in work, life and citizenship. Our straightforward hands-on curriculum is based on authentic, reality-based projects that foster independent thinking, self-directed learning, exploration, iteration and creativity. We cultivate collaboration and civic awareness by tackling “wicked problems” such as environmental health or inadequate housing using a hands-on approach to explore multiple materials and drawing techniques each day. Whether it’s a home for a human, a secret hideout for a mythical creature or a shelter for a favorite pet, design inspirations are explored through the interactive process of character creation, storytelling, making and drawing.
I design virtual studio curriculum for the maker space community teaching ages 6-14. I have a free online workshop entitled “Stacked Houses” to share here for you to pass along to your kiddos. I’m so proud that my project “Robotics & Biomimicry in Architecture” was also recently featured at Virtual Maker Faire and I'm happy to share that free workshop here as well.
My question is this: I am interested in offering my virtual workshops for makerspace leaders who would be interested in purchasing curriculum packages. Each Virtual Studio Project Package would include:
- A project video that introduces the big idea, links it to architecture, culture and the design process
- A Materials Demo video showing how to think about the ways in which found materials might be used for the
project
- A materials list based on easily procured items, recycled materials and items found around the house
- Project Sheets that can be used as promotion
- Downloadable bonus materials that fit with the project such as articles, games and puzzles
I am at the beginning stages of research to grow this aspect of my business and I'd like to gather opinions as to whether this would be something the makerspace community would value and how I might best serve these educators. I created a short survey for those of you who are kind available to help. I’m also totally happy to receive advice and comments here or by email at fi...@wickedworkshop.org.
Thank you for your feedback and I look forward to being a contributing member of this community.
