Hi, I'm not affiliated with this but wanted to spread the word a bit because it would be fun to have more Bay Area schools involved (or if you're not in N. California there may be similar events near you). I've taken students to this several years and it's always been a great experience. They get to design and build their own wind turbines and then test them in a professional-grade wind tunnel. Not much prior knowledge needed, no cost, and open to both Middle and High School ages... Thanks!
David (near Berkeley, CA)

PS if you have questions I can try to answer, or I'd be happy to put you in touch with the actual organizers...

Are you interested in engaging  your students in a STEM – based event focused on renewable energy while engaging with college students on a college campus?

California State University Maritime Academy will be hosting its fourth Kidwind Challenge on its beautiful campus on the Bay in Vallejo, CA.  These events are free and open to all middle and high schools.  No prior experience is required.

Friday Nov. 17, 2023 1-4pm:  Kickoff Meeting.  Teachers and small groups of student leaders are invited to this introductory meeting, where Cal Maritime faculty and students will go over basics of wind energy technology and distribute kits to build wind turbines.

Nov 17 2023 – Feb. 3, 2024:  Student groups will build their turbines at their respective schools.  Cal Maritime students will be available for video consultations.

Feb 3, 2024 9:00am – 2:00pm  The Kidwind Challenge.  Student teams will bring their turbines to Cal Maritime to test them in our wind tunnel and explain their designs to our college student judges.  Those that were not able to build turbines in advance are still invited to build turbines onsite with our turbine kits.  College students will be able to assist.  Top teams will be offered the opportunity to compete in the National Kidwind Challenge in Minneapolis, MN in May!  There will be additional fun STEM-related events, a tour of our 500 foot training ship, and prizes.  Lunch in our dining facility on the Bay will also be provided.

Depending on your location, transportation for your students to and from this event may be able to be provided.
