Hi!

I'm interested in buying the complete guide, but wonder about the extension of the document. Maybe it's too obvious (but the guide costs $83 euros so I must be sure it's worthwhile), but It doesn't have just 32 pages, does it? (I saw the jzy3d guide-overview pdf).

Can anyone give me some comments about the guide?

Hi,
The guide comes with more than 30 code samples that help to quickly understand how to use the API. Some of these demos are shown on the gallery (http://www.jzy3d.org/gallery.php).
Although not officially sold with the pack, there is also a reactive mail support.
Regards,
Martin

Thanks Martin

I'm pretty sure the sample code is invaluable as a learning resource. To mention a similar product, the JFreeChart Developer Guide is a 750+ page document, for $65.
http://www.jfree.org/jfreechart/devguide.html

I knew about the 30 code samples, but my question was about the extension of the complete guide.

Hi,

As a JFreeChart client myself, I can remember their documentation which was really helpfull.
A large part of these 750 pages were made of Javadocs. We prefered to release separately a Developper Manual and the Javadocs [1], which explains such a difference in the number of pages.
Any suggestion you may have concerning the guide is most welcome, and will help us improve its clarity and exhaustivity.

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

Javadocs are nice but they would be even nicer when all the interfaces, classes and their public methods and variables whould have Javadoc comments. In the Jzy3d Javadoc there are plenty interfaces, classes and methods without comments. Only the automatic created Javadoc is often not enough. Especially for core elements of the API, these would be importent I think.

Selling the manual is ok I think. I also bought the JFreeChart manual and I think it was worth it. Maybe I will by your manual too, when I use your API for a real project.

Regards,
Erik

Hi,
Thanks Erik for your feedback. Can you tell me what are the classes that should be documented in priority?
Martin

 Hi Martin,

here is a little list of interfaces and classes for which I noticed that Javadocs are missing:

- IAxeLayout
- ITickProvider
- ITickRenderer
- IntegerTickRenderer
- ColorbarLegend
- CameraMouseController
- ISortableDraw
- IGLRenderer
- Chart (missing Javadoc for public/protected methods and variables)
- Graph (missing Javadoc for public/protected methods and variables)
...

Maybe it would be helpful for you to set up your compiler to warn for missing Javadocs ;-)

Regards
Erik

Hi,

Thanks for the compiler warning suggestion, but I do not want to document all, as many classes and methods have an explicit behavior :)

Cheers,
Martin

Hi all.. I came up with jzy3d when searching for a 3d plotting tool for my Project.. I could find in many sites such as stackoverflow, that this software is really good and easy ( the name itself suggest java easy 3d ).. But coming to the documentation part, I could find the docs didn't help me much, and so I have decided to buy the pdf guide.. I just want to ensure two things..
1. Is the software really easy and powerful? ( powerful meaning, supporting a lot of 3d renderings)
2. Is the guide worth buying? Will it help out really? ( since its costly, I would get your suggestions before making a move )

I would be grateful if someone could clear my doubts..
Thanks in advance..

Hi Sharan,

To have an overview of the API features:
1) look at the gallery (http://jzy3d.org/gallery.php)
2) download and run the executable demos (http://jzy3d.org/download-0.9.php)

Do not hesitate to ask for details concerning features before buying the guide.

As mentionned on the guide page, we promise to refund unsatisfied clients, but we never had to do so up to now.

Cheers,
Martin
