Does this work with any magnetic stripe encoder for writing data to magnetic stripe card?

I am looking for Java code to write data to magnetic stripe card.

Thanks.

It highly depends on printer model. Please post a model printer/encoder you are interested in and if it supports a raw language the answer is most likely yes.

Some newer windows-only printers lack raw functionality, so it is model specific.

Hi Tres,

Thank you for your reply.

I am interested in this MSR605 reader/encoder.

I read the user manual (please see the attachment), it does support the raw language. My concern it is just a USB device, and window will treat it like a printer?

Thanks.

What you've linked is a card reader only, not a card writer as your original email suggests.

Can you explain a little more what yo are trying to do?  I have experience with both and can most certainly offer some insight.

I thought it is both reader and writer

MSR605 Magnetic Card Reader Writer Encoder Stripe Swipe Credit Magstripe MSR206

##The MSR605 is designed to offer a reading and writing solution of high and/or low coercivity cards that will attractively complement an existing system. The MSR605 series is designed to read and/or write high or low coercivity magnetic cards. It can encode and verify up to 3 tracks of data simultaneously. It communicates with a host computer or other terminal using a usb interface.
I am writing a gift card managment system. So I would like to encode a serial number (UUID database ID that link to a table record in the database) to magnetic gift card. Later on I can read the serial number back to retrive the record from the database.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Most magnetic cards are printed with card printers.

qz-print may work with it, but there are a lot of factors.
  1. The device needs serial port emulation
  2. The device needs STX and ETX characters
  3. You would then use the Serial Port features in qz-print.
Since serial functionality is relatively new (and has major issues with browser refresh) I would advise you to contact sa...@qzindustries.com to assist with development and testing.

This is the first I've seen a card swipe used also as an encoder.

Thanks for your inputs. I guess first thing I will need to get the device first.
