No error, nothing in the CUPS error_log and it show a successful add to the queue in the access_log.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ross

Ross,

Can you offer any more details, such as OSX version, printer manufacturer?

Also, are you using sample.html to print?  What button are you using?

It's OS X 10.8.3, the printer is a Boca Lemur 46.  I am clicking the Raw Printer Only / Print button.  I've since posting my question I've loaded my VM image of Windows 7 and created a text printer and the same thing happens so it sounds like maybe it not OS X, maybe its the printer config.  Anyone ever try this with a Boca printer.

There's two modes on the printer a Driver mode and a HID mode, however in both OS's when in HID mode nothing show up in the printers.  So it doesn't seem that I can add the printer in HID mode.  I've also open a case with Boca and they don't seem very helpful in accomplishing sending FGL (its printer language) directly to the printer from a browser.

Ross,

Yes, I have experience with BOCA printers, but not with jZebra.

Did you follow the instructions for setting up a raw print device on both OSs?

Who is your contact with BOCA?  Can you forward me their contact info in a separate email?

I did, I followed both instructions for setting up a raw printer.  Both "worked" as in no errors setting them up.  However, in both OSs the job just sits in the queue, on OS X you se the Waiting message.  In Windows, I just get Error with no supporting detail even in the Event Viewer.

Thanks for the help, sending you my contact.

Thanks.
Ross

Ross,

I have contacted the resource at BOCA you have provided me.

Here is a copy of the email:

FGL / Windows, FGL / OSX

Hi, how are you?

I'm the author of a program that sends raw print commands to printer via a web browser. This program uses a similar method as BASIC or DOS or CMD, but works within a web browser.  It works with many printer brands that allow raw print commands to be sent over the wire.

Someone is trying to set up a BOCA printer to work with the print plugin and I was wondering if there were any setup documentation or recommendations you could make?

The software currently is compatible with ESC/POS, ZPL, ECPL on Windows, Linux and most versions of MacOSX.

I've have a very pleasant experience with BOCA printers in the past (I once worked with BOCA ticket printers for my employer) and am eager to list FGL as a supported language and also help him with his struggles.

I wanted to provide an update on BOCA ticket printing to the list.  Below's a quote from BOCA team stating it works!

Tres,

I setup and ran the jZebra Boca Sample Applet 1.4.8.  I followed the directions to setup the Generic Text Only driver on COM, LPT and USB ports.  I ran the application and it worked on all three ports.  I then uninstalled the [Generic Text Only] drivers and then installed the Boca Systems printer driver.  I again gave it the BOCA_TEST name.  I tested all three ports and again all three ports work.  [Anyone] should be able to perform the same tests, assuming a printer (with USB, COM and LPT port) is available.

Considering the application is communicating with the printer drivers (not the printer), it does not surprise me all ports work the same (except for speed).  There is nothing stopping a web based application from printing through either of these drivers in a raw text mode.

[My team] has lost track of what questions we are trying to answer.  I can print to a Boca Printer through a driver from any web site I visit in graphic mode (or raw text mode (where available).  Your test applet performed just fine in Raw Text mode.  I even put the printer into diagnostic mode just to see what raw text arrives and it looks good also.

[Regarding adapter cables] Yes some customers have installed a virtual port (com or lpt) adapter onto their PC on a USB port to generate a COM3 or LPT2 port.  That can then be used with legacy hardware/software systems.  We do not recommend this when developing new systems, since the USB port works better without it.

Thank You,
Boca Systems

I would also like to add, I had success with USB on Mountain Lion tonight.  I've revamped the tutorial to reflect what was needed to fix printing on 10.8.3, Java 1.7, Safari.  Please post your progress.
