my experience with the internet in the classroom has been
limited, but here goes. we access the net at our local community college,
we do not have equipment in the classroom yet. i have used the net for
research reasons and students have very much enjoyed this. i can see that
next year we will expand this and use it to e-mail students in other
parts of the world, which will (i hope) open up new doors for my
student. i teach special ed high school boys who are VERY self centered,
perhaps learning about other cultures ??
on the down side in our rush to WIRE every school in the
country a new problem has risen, where and how do we use the net to
best serve and for what reason. we have no equipment to run net programs
so we as a school are in a heated discussion about how, if why we
should hook on to the net. many teachers a4re afraid of the net and
computers in general. they see it as a waste of time and money which
could be better served buying paper and pencil.
i am trying not to ramble you ask how the net will impact
teaching. teachers who have and are willing to try new ideas and be
creative with them will use the net as a tool and do very well . teachers
who do not approach teaching this way will fight it asd they have
computers saying that it is a waste of time . you can lead a horse to a
computer but you can not make him log on!
