I am sending this letter to all my friends as an invitation to join me in the creation of a project: Fundraising from friends! (http://www.active.com/donate/tntil/KarlaGarjaka)
I have decided to tackle the Chicago Marathon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program in memory of Fernanda Graciete Cerdoura Garjaka and Giselda da Moura Camara. Giselda, my grandmother, was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and lost her battle six months later. Fernanda, Tiago's mother, was diagnosed with Cancer in 2001 and lost her battle in 2003. Unfortunately, many like my grandmother and my mother-in-law lose their battle to his horrific disease. It is this realism that reinforces my dedication to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society find a cure.
I am training with Team in Training, a national organization established by the Leukemia Society to raise funds for the society. I am training with a group of individuals and three personal trainers in exchange for a pledge to raise $1,400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. However, my personal goal is to raise $4,000 by September 28th.
I have chosen to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society because there are so many people affected by blood cancer. The bottom line is that ANY cancer extremely impacts a family and this is my way of honoring all of those survivors, as well as the memory of those who lost to cancer, no matter what type.
So here is my design project. I am asking each and every one of you to take part in my fundraising efforts. I challenge you to ask a minimum of four people in your community: friends, co-workers and relatives, to donate to this cause. This is YOUR chance to be part of an amazing opportunity to see what can be generated through the real source of friends' connections. Think about it, each of you has at least four people you feel close enough to that you could ask for donation. You are asking your friends and family members to contribute to a cause that almost every person in World has been impacted by, whether it is a parent, sibling, friend, spouse or child. Everyone has the desire to give; some just need to be asked!
I am committed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team. I am committed to the health and well being of my friends. We are spread out all over the world yet we can make a huge impact by working as one unit toward this goal.
