Could you tell me about your experience with GIS? Did you ever place a
map on a website? Did you know about OGC standards? etc.
I want to know about it to help you better.
Cheers,
Waiting for your reply/help.

First, you have to clear about difference between WAP and J2ME. You
can refer to those articles:
http://developers.sun.com/mobility/midp/articles/mcommerce/
http://developers.sun.com/mobility/midp/articles/midpwap/
After that you can tell me: you want to display a map on a "site" or
in an "application"?

Sorry for late reply because of wrong moderation mode (it was changed,
now you can post new message at any time).
I want to confirm: Does your "WAP" mean the page that can be displayed
on mobile browser?
WAP page has very poor functionality compared to a mobile application.
That's why I cannot see any open source software for displaying map on
WAP page. MapQuest has very good solutions for mobile that is very
close to your question. You can take a look at http://www.mapquest.com/mobile/
and see the way they did it. If you have a good Web development
knowledge, I think it's not difficult for you to develop a WAP
solution.
Best regards,
