Hi all -

I hope you've had a nice summer and holiday weekend! Our next Justice40 Open Source Community Meeting is July 15th at 5pm ET.

Gabe Watson will be facilitating the call with Alex Hall from EPA's Office of Research and Development / Office of Environmental Justice and Civil Rights. They will be discussing  the launch of EPA’s new drinking water dataset and its importance for advancing drinking water justice.

What is this dataset?
Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Community Water System Service Area Boundaries Map. Using machine learning modeling techniques, this dataset covers all 50 states and Tribal systems and boundaries for 99% of all public water consumers in the United States. Crucially, this national dataset will finally make it easier for the public to know who they get their water from, and whether it’s safe to drink.

EPA’s map will be pivotal for policymakers, communities, advocates, and others as they prioritize and track drinking water investments over time.

In the meeting, we'll cover the ins and outs of the dataset —including why EPA created it, what uses they see for the data, and how their mapping tool can help fill gaps in your own environmental justice projects.

As always, please extend the invite to those that may be interested in joining.

Warmly,
Jessie
