Hi all,

The Environmental Policy Innovation Center is hosting this month's open source community meeting and will feature a presentation by students at Georgetown's Massive Data Institute. Here's what they are planning to share:

Our presentation will introduce a tool we've developed supporting the Justice40 Initiative. Users can input a variety of locations, starting from broader categories like states and counties and narrowing down to cities, zip codes, congressional districts, and census blocks. The tool offers insights into the number of census tracts, their disadvantaged status, and the total population for the chosen location. Additionally, we'll be showcasing our dashboard prototype, which allows users to navigate and access funding information related to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, providing a comprehensive perspective on financial tracking.

Look forward to having you all join November 13th at 5pm ET!

Apologies for the many emails, but the MDI presentation was too large for sending via google group message. You can access it through this link here - please email me directly if you'd like the PDF version.

&& here are the other resources that were shared during the meeting:

Links to resources shared:
  • Center for Neighborhood Technology EJ & J40 Tool Comparison: This interactive tool lets you see how each census tract is categorized in CEQ's CEJST,  CDC's Environmental Justice Index (EJI) and DOT's Equitable Transportation Community Explorer (ETCE).
  • EPIC EJ Tools Inventory: EPIC developed this EJ Tool Inventory to help EJ funding applicants, advocates, policy makers, and developers navigate—and collaborate across—today’s growing ecosystem of EJ tools.
  • Massive Data Institute Environmental Impact Data Collaborative Website: https://redivis.com/EIDC
  • New Report from ClimateXChange, EPIC and Beechhill Research: Delivering on Justice40: Perspectives from State Agency Staff - To evaluate progress to date, we led a collaborative, qualitative research program to interview state agency staff from across the country working on Justice40 programs. Their feedback sheds light on how states are navigating federal guidelines—and where the barriers are to delivering on the promise of Justice40.
  • EPIC Survey: Please take 5 min to share how you have been using EJ Tools
    • At present, there are numerous maps and tools that use state and federal data (and related criteria) to identify and analyze Environmental Justice (EJ), underserved, overburdened, vulnerable, disadvantaged, or priority communities. The Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) is interested in learning who uses EJ tools, how they are being utilized, and what users' experiences are like.

Parts of your responses may be shared anonymously with a diverse mix of government and non-government stakeholders; but no names or or personal information will be collected or shared.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Warmly,
Jessie
