Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this and answer my questions.  I have been considering a scooter for years.  My needs: around town, 10-30 miles daily, top speed 30mph, easy to control, some storage for shopping.  I would like it to be 'automatic' or easy to shift gears, registering it in california so I can get insurance on it would be nice as well.  Current suggestions from a friend include:  Puch moped, honda Passport, or any of the "small engine/big wheel" scooters/mopeds are going to be best on gas, easier to control. Vespa or Kymco. I would be very grateful for any suggestions or information y'all can give me!

Hi!

You did not include your height and weight?
Thirty (30) mph is a farm town? If you are going 10 30 miles per day I wouldn't limit my self to 30 mph or a 50cc scooter. Best value in my biased opinion would be at least a 125cc scoot. Kymco is probably the best value.
All modern scooters are twist and go - no shifting - most meet CA CARB standards.
I just sold my Honda 600cc Silverwing scooter - too heavy and my Kymco People 150cc - too slow and purchased a "new" left over Kymco People S250 which is just right.
Of course I am 6'1" - 230lbs

I think Kymco is the best scooter around.  I have had 3 of them.  They are great.  Do not buy a Chinese one!!

Hi!

The minimum I would consider would be a Kymco Agility 125cc. It is the best bargain on the market at less than 1,899,oo new. It has larger wheels (Think potholes) and will do about 50mph so you are not wide open throttle at 35 mph. My opinion is nthat 50cc scoots belong on the sidewalk!!!!
