I have "presently" a Yamaha Vino 125 scoot.  I like the Vino a lot but it sure isn't the "best" all around scooter.  Here is what I'm looking for in a best scooter: good fuel mileage, around town ease of operation, light weight, occasional speeds of up to 70 mph, storage capacity, occasionally 2 up, non-shifter CVT, dependability, good brakes and lights.  I know a lot about motorcycles/trucks and cars but little about automatic scooters.
What scooters would you folks recommend I look at or consider?
  Thanks.............Mike

Mike,

I love my Kymco Downtown 300i but you might not like the seat ergonomics if you're a taller guy. I commute daily on this scooter and it handles highway speeds with ease, has great storage and I'm getting around 70mpg. It's a very agile platform and has plenty of power for 2 up riding.

You can't go wrong with any of the Kymco line up and I hear their Xciting line is also a popular choice (250 and 500 cc).

There's also a lot of parts and support for Kymco scooters plus if you're mechanically inclined their fairly easy to work on.

The 250cc Kymco engine is such a stable platform that it's widely used by other manufacturers for use in their quads

As I am sure you are aware, there is no "best" anything. Best for you may be bad for others. Best value will be Kymco, SYM and Genuine from Taiwan. High quality and lower prices than the Japanese brands. Anything from India or mainland China are going to need more work to keep on the road. That includes the Stella and Royal Enfield, but those aren't what you were looking for. My Buddy and my SYM Wolf 150s both cruise at 65mph and get 75-80mpg. If you need more than that, go for a 200-300cc machine. Vespa builds a stylish but expensive scooter but my experience was not as reliable as the Taiwan bikes. More important is the fit. At 5'9" I fit almost all bikes but of course that may not be your case. Good luck!
