OK, now that that's out of the way...

Meet in the Middle 4 Equality is a statewide event planned for the first Saturday after the California State Supreme Court renders its decision on the Proposition 8 cases. We will meet in front of Fresno City Hall in downtown Fresno at 1:00 pm, and begin a new movement toward full equality for LGBT people and their families.

Win or lose, we will Meet in the Middle 4 Equality!

Meet in the Middle 4 Equality was born out of the desire to unite all progressive, equality-loving people in the state of California for one day to celebrate the dignity and value of every human being. We are calling on labor, clergy, and religious leaders to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with LGBT citizens and their families to declare our commitment to regaining the rights stripped from our community by Proposition 8 and to press forward in our journey to full equality.

Why Fresno? Court cases alone cannot secure our freedom, we must be willing listen to and engage our adversaries if we can ever hope to win their hearts and minds. In order to do that, we have to meet them where they live. Places like Fresno, CA and the Central Valley are far more reflective of national attitudes toward LGBT issues than places like SF and LA – we have to bring the message of equality to middle America.

Meet in the Middle is a unique event, planned at the grassroots and designed to be spontaneous. We have no idea when the Supreme Court will release it’s decision—it could be anytime between now and the first weekend in June-- but the first Saturday after we will Meet in the Middle 4 Equality.

Already signed on to support the event are FAIR, the Courage Campaign, Cleve Jones, Robin Tyler, Marriage Equality USA, the Jordan-Rustin Coalition, One Struggle One Fight, Join the Impact, GSA Network, Equal Roots, Love-Honor-Cherish, and many others.

Program development and logistics are currently underway, if you or a representative from your group would like to be a part of this exciting and potentially historic event please contact us.

We appreciate your patience as we attempt to develop a more detailed agenda (and a full website) for the event. In the meantime, here are a few links to get you to Fresno….soon!
