Hi Just South,

I've been running with y'all for about a month or two now and have been having a blast.  Is there any process for joining NBR officially?  I read a bit about changing my nyrr club affiliation and it sounds like I need to contact them to run "unaffiliated" for the next 90 days as a first step.

I have to admit, the real reason is that I'm jealous of all the NBR singlets I see everywhere and really really want to order one without feeling like a fraud.

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Happy to have you aboard!

Presuming you already subscribed to the general North Brooklyn Runners Google Group?  If not, please officially sign the club waivers/questionnaires and join here:

In terms of NYRR racing, the below information appears on their website:

Changing Your Club Affiliation
USATF rules state that any runner who has declared a club affiliation in a USATF-sanctioned race (all NYRR scored races are USATF-sanctioned) and wishes to declare a different club affiliation in a subsequent race must run unattached for 90 days prior to declaring the new affiliation. Declaring a club affiliation prior to this 90-day period risks disqualifying the new club from the race.

If you intend to change your affiliation from one New York area club to another club, please contact us once the 90-day period has passed so we can update your membership record.

You may need to email NYRR directly to remove/adjust the club affiliation in your NYRR account. (I just tried to do it for myself online as an example for you, but the website doesn't actually allow you to change the club affiliation on your own - it's a fixed setting.) You can contact NYRR via below portal:

Hope that's of some use - if you have any trouble moving forward or need additional information, email me and Christina Caira at teamca...@northbrooklynrunners.org

Thanks,

Jen

Max, that's only required if you're as good-looking as Max Frumes. *wink*

P.S. Totally off topic, but my sister just had a baby an hour ago, and they named him Max, after Max Frumes (first part is true).

this is excellent news! congrats

also, good, we need to move up the rankings. "Max" was 118th most popular boys name in 2016. http://spreadsheets.latimes.com/find-my-name-top-us-baby-names-2016/

Actually.... as shared by David Alm (another NBR convert, sort of;) I believe THESE are now the requirements for joining NBR:

Also Jen, it's not just the coffee shops we take over (and stink up). We run for much more healthy options like Donuts, more specifically, DOUGHnuts, then there are those runs that end with beer...lots o' beer.

Oh, and don't forget Thursday Night Track, that ends with Pizza...and cheap beer.

Some NBRiors even go for the option to run and get fresh Salmon - but Salmon isn't a very healthy option, so they only do that once a month.

To finish off the NBR onboarding process, you'll have to pledge your allegiance to either the #amrevolution or #pmrevolution - this will also help to determine which type of land, air, or sea creature will become your spirit animal. Choose wisely!

And finally, to be truly accepted into the covenant, you'll have to attend a Joshua Hatcher concert. It's sorta like attending a Molly Hatchet concert...but different.

Welcome aboard, Ryan!

Last week I ran with both the Nite Owls and the Doves, so my spirit animal / revolution hashtag is already confused.  I think next week I'll choose my runs based solely on the doughnut shop at the end.

Thanks for the tips for getting set up!  I've contacted nyrr and am on my way.
