We are delighted to invite you to attend the 19th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law (ICAIL 2021).

ICAIL is the biennial official conference of the International Association for Artificial Intelligence and Law (IAAIL – www.iaail.org), whose aim is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest research results and practical applications and to stimulate interdisciplinary and international collaboration. The conference has In-Cooperation status with ACM-SIGAI (sigai.acm.org) and AAAI (aaai.org).

The early registration period is in effect through May 14, 2023.  Regular rates apply from May 15 through June 4.  Late registration rates will be charged from June 5 onward.

*INVITED SPEAKERS*

Prof. Floris Bex, Utrecht University, IAAIL President

Bio: Floris Bex is Associate Professor of AI at Utrecht University, and full Professor of Data Science and the Judiciary at Tilburg University. At Utrecht University, Floris leads the National Police Lab AI. He has a PhD in AI & Law, and his research focuses on AI techniques (mainly argumentation and NLP) for law enforcement and the legal field, as well as on legal and societal aspects of such AI systems.

    

Dr. Natalie Byrom, The Legal Education Foundation, UK

Bio: Dr Natalie Byrom is Director of Research at The Legal Education Foundation and Founder and Director of Justice Lab- a policy and evidence centre using data and evidence to tackle the most pressing problems facing the justice system. At Justice Lab, Dr Byrom leads a programme of work which aims to improve the quality and availability of data about the justice system and build public trust and confidence in the use of data and data driven technologies. She was formerly adviser to Ministry of Justice on open data, where she led work to develop a data strategy for the courts service in England and Wales. She is part of the BBC Expert Women Network and in 2022 was appointed to the Civil Justice Council as member for information architecture and econometrics. Her writing on access to justice and data governance has been published in the legal and national press.

    

Prof. Daniel E. Ho, Stanford Law School

Bio: Daniel E. Ho is the William Benjamin Scott and Luna M. Scott Professor of Law at Stanford Law School, Professor of Political Science, and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He is also Associate Director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, Faculty Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and is Director of the Regulation, Evaluation, and Governance Lab (RegLab). Ho serves on the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Commission (NAIAC), advising the White House on artificial intelligence, and as a Public Member of the Administrative Conference of the United States (ACUS). He received his J.D. from Yale Law School and Ph.D. from Harvard University and clerked for Judge Stephen F. Williams on the U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit.

*DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM*

Traditionally, the ICAIL will be accompanied by a Doctoral Consortium, a session devoted to the presentation of PhD projects. The Doctoral Consortium will be held on Friday, June the 23rd.
