The aim of COLIEE is to formulate a challenging legal informatics competition that would engage researchers around the world and build a community of practice regarding legal information extraction and textual entailment, so that the adoption and adaptation of general methods from a variety of fields is considered, and participants share their approaches, problems, and results.
The 2026 edition of COLIEE is run in association with the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law (ICAIL) 2026, Singapore Management University, Singapore + Online (Hybrid). Workshop date at ICAIL2026 is TBD (June 8th or 12th, 2026).

Tasks
COLIEE-2026 will include the following tasks:
Task 1: Case law retrieval for decision support. Canadian law, English data. (CL-IR)
Task 2: Identifying decision-entailing paragraphs in cases. Canadian law, English data. (CL-DE)
Task 3: Statute retrieval and entailment for yes/no questions. Japanese law, Japanese data. (SL-QA)
Task 4: Statute entailment for yes/no questions with relevant articles. Japanese law, Japanese data. (SL-TE)
Pilot Task 1: Tort prediction from facts and arguments. Japanese law, Japanese data. (TP)
Pilot Task 2: Rationale extraction for accepted arguments. Japanese law, Japanese data. (RE)
*Note that Task 3 is no longer a simple statute-retrieval task. From this year, the participants are expected to submit entailment results with relevant articles.

Important Dates
15 Jan, 2026: Training data release
15 Feb, 2026: Test data release (except Task 4) and registration deadline (All tasks)
1 Mar, 2026: Submission deadline for Task 3 test runs
3 Mar, 2026: Test data release (Task 4)
15 Mar, 2026: Submission deadline for Tasks 1, 2, 4, and pilot tasks
22 Mar, 2026: Ranking announcement for all Tasks
29 Mar, 2026: Paper submission deadline
30 April, 2026: Paper notifications
15 May, 2026: Camera-ready deadline
8 or 12 June, 2026: COLIEE workshop (Venue: ICAIL2026@Singapore Management University) Date is TBD.
