Calico buttons are gone after installing Rise

I just installed Rise, looks very nice, but the installation removed my Calico buttons.

These buttons are loaded in ...ipython\profile_default\static\custom\custom.js.
So it looks that the custom.js is not executed anymore.
I've restarted everything but that doesn't help.
Any clue how to get Calico working again or how to uninstall Rise ?

If you're using Jupyter, custom.js no longer lives in your IPython profile directory. Maybe there was a fallback to that which RISE shadowed by creating a new custom.js.

Your customisations should now live in:

~/.jupyter/custom/custom.js

The new RISE (I mean the latest beta1 available) does not write anything into the custom.js

Maybe you are using an old version?

Again, if you using the latest beta, you should be able to disable it with:

jupyter-nbextension disable rise

Sorry, I hit the send button to early, if you are in conda you can disable it with:

jupyter-nbextension disable rise --py --sys-prefix

Btw, what is the output of

jupyter-nbextension list

Alternative, you can remove RISE with

conda remove rise

or

pip uninstall rise

But in the last case, you need to uninstall and disable the nbextension too.

I will add this info into the README.

Rise is gone

The structure has changed. The 'profile_default' and 'static' levels have been eliminated, so the 'custom' folder sits directly in .jupyter/ (note that's jupyter with a y, not an i).

FYI, I'm looking at bringing these extensions into the modern world, so that they can be installed properly and in the right place.

Thanks Doug!

My best guess is that when Stef installed RISE, since RISE has a dependency on notebook >=4.2, it also updated their notebook to the latest available. And since the extensions does not work with the latest one, is breaking...

Stef, you can always go back to the previous state using conda revision and leaving the things in custom,js as they were. Or reinstall the previous notebook version and install the extension as you installed before. Or wait a little bit for Doug ;-)

thank you all guys for the quick responses.

I'm new to Anaconda, Jupiter and all the beautiful addons/plugins, so I want to try them all right away !!

With the help of you, I was able to get the Calico buttons back.
- uninstall Rise didn't make it work
- going back to an older revision, crashed completely (btw the conda revision trick seems a great tool, if it works)
- the suggestion of Thomas to put the custom.js in a different folder did the trick

The install instructions and layout of the files has been brought into proper formatting for modern Jupyter. The README is here:

The older Calico extensions are now rebranded "Calysto" to bring in line with our overarching project. FYI, these should work well with the nbextension-configurator, but haven't been able to test that yet.
