Hi all, I would like to have spell checking in the notebook while I edit cells (especially markdown cells).
I have seen some info about this that I found by google, however, the sources were at least a year old.

My question is, what is the best way to install spell check (assuming that it is available) for the latest version of Jupyter?

cheers,
Bjorn

Hi Björn,

Unfortunately browser vendors do not provide an API to hook into
platform spell checker, so it is hard to provide spellcheck for
notebook, hence it is not shipped in core, and will likely not be
shipped for a while.

You can though fall back on community maintained extension for the
Classic notebook, I'm unsure how well these work but you can find a
spell check extension here:

https://github.com/ipython-contrib/jupyter_contrib_nbextensions/blob/master/src/jupyter_contrib_nbextensions/nbextensions/spellchecker/README.md

You can find more information on how to install these with in the
readme at the root of the repository.

Does that help ?

Thanks,

Thanks! I'll try it out. I use chrome for which there are plenty of add-ons that do spell check.
The one I tried (Grammarly) does not seem to handle notebooks.

You can install Calysto Spell checker (and more) here:

Specifically:

unzip master.zip
cd notebook-extensions-master
jupyter nbextension install calysto
jupyter nbextension enable calysto/spell-check/main
