When I start jupyter lab I get repeated messages.

I'm running on macOS Sierra with the latest version of jupyter lab.

There are no notebooks open and when I search through the files under ~/Library/Jupyter/* directories

I don't find any files that mention test.lisp or foo.

Does anyone have an idea where these come from?

Maybe a better question is "jupyterlab seems to store information between sessions - where does it do this?"

Maybe you have left a tab open in a browser window that is hidden?

I've checked that a couple of times - I don't see anything.

I currently have only Chrome up and only one window.
This is what I see...

It's mystifying.

It occurred to me to write something into those files to see what happened.

It turns out they are symbolic links to files that don't exist.
I removed them both and now there are no more messages.

I didn't see them because I was looking with the jupyterlab file browser.

It's probably due to jupyterlab trying to read bad symbolic links.
