command recall in jupyter terminal

Hi,

How do I setup command recall in a jupyter terminal? Up and Down arrows are not working. Nor is 'set -o vi'

Do you mean the terminals available in the notebook web interface? If so, up and down arrows work for me.

One possibility is that you don't have the $SHELL environment variable set, and it's defaulting to plain sh rather than bash. Set SHELL=bash before launching the notebook to make it use bash.

Yes. I am referring to the terminal from the web interface.

Where exactly do I set the SHELL variable?. After lauching the notebook at localhost:8888? If so, where? Thanks for your help.

I tried setting it after creating the terminal from the web interface to no avail.

In the terminal you launch the notebook from, before you launch it. If you're launching it from a GUI interface, it gets a bit more complex; if so, what platform are you on?
