Anaconda should include Jupyter already, so you don't need to 'conda install' it separately.

Hi,

I don't think it's going to the cloud. The thing is the Jupyter Notebook works through the web browser. It doesn't have a desktop application associated with it.

Cheers,
Carlos

Thanks for the reply
I did conda install command following the jupyter website installation instructions which says after installation of anaconda run the conda install command from prompt..
when i did that the command window shows its trying to search for some files from cloud..
I know jupyter runs from browser..
Also if i run the jupyter notebook from command it runs jupyter but it has no associated kernel..
plz guide them through this setup issue..

PS> system is offline one

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Most probably the notebook is trying to load MathJax, which is a javascript library to show mathematical equations to show in the browser.

After running jupyter notebook you need to press the button called New, then select an entry (Python 2 or 3) under Notebooks.

Cheers,
Carlos

Thanks carlos
i did what you said..python3 is showing and i selected that but no notebook starts instead it gives 404..
and on command it shows its trying to start something but couldnt..just hangs in there without any error
moreover i think no kernel is associated with it right not, as it is shows somewhere while shutting jupyter i guess.
is there any command to manually associate python3 kernel with jupyter so that i could open notebook..
plz guide
thanks

Perhaps some more details would help:

- What is your OS?
- What version of anaconda do you have?
- What browser are you using?
- What is some output you are getting in the window where you launch the notebook?

Hi nicholas
Win7 ultimate
anaconda3
ixplore 9

i open command prompt
>jupyter notebook
then it shows
0 active kernels
use control c to stop server

then on browser it open jupyter main screen
then i start new notebook by selecting ipython3 a new tab opens with 404 error which disappears soon and
screen turns blank like it will load something but nothing happens
on the command prompt if i see it shows
ip addresss notbook] 404 get/undefined (::1) 15.61ms referer =None
ip address notebook] creating new notebook in

THAT IS ALL and it stays that way with no error on command and no output on new browser tab or anything
hope it helps in resolution
thanks in advance

I think I remember some error like that. Can you try with another browser (Firefox/Chrome)? We don't officially support IE, though I think IE 10 and above does work.

Right. The `get/undefined` suggests that somewhere in browserland, one of the notebook functions isn't compatible with IE9, and instead of requesting a kernel or notebook, you're getting `undefined`.

Here's where we list the choice of browsers you have for using the Jupyter Notebook:

http://jupyter-notebook.readthedocs.io/en/latest/notebook.html#browser-compatibility

Good luck!

It was indeed browser related. Installed firefox and worked like a charm..
Thank you all for your help and support..
Happy coding
take care

Hi,

Just as a way to help users like Muhammad in the future, wouldn't it be useful to display a compatibility browser list in the notebook 404 page (at least for local notebooks)?

Cheers,
Carlos

I expect that a 404 error won't usually be caused by an incompatible browser, and I'm not even sure that at incompatible browser would usually cause a 404 error.

I agree with what takowl wrote but it happened that way..but the 404 error appeared for a while then reloaded the page and turned blank like it would load something but then nothing loaded..
anyways changing the browser solved the issue so compatible or preferred browsers should be mentioned for the better of everyone, as carlos said..
