Neater way to use greek letters in markdown cell?

I have this in a markdown cell:



When I run the cell it shows the text:


Is there a way to just show the alpha char right behind the text, instead of centered on a separate line?

Use single dollar signs instead of double: $\alpha$ . Single dollars puts maths inline, double dollars puts them in a block.
