Recently it was brought to my attention that one of our lab machines running Windows 7 and Faronics Deepfreeze was stuck in a reboot loop. Upon looking at it I found that it was displaying the normal windows start up logo with a black background and then going into updates. At the end of the updates it would reboot and start the process all over again.
After a little research I found a post that mentioned renaming the c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml to prevent the system from attempting to apply updates. I booted the system into System Recovery and selected command prompt and renamed the file. I then rebooted and it worked in-so-far as allowing the machine to boot up such that I could login and thaw it.
why I can bypass deep Freeze by logging in windows partition from Ubuntu and edit what I want is it freeze. I just go to the windows partition file system, then I go to desktop and edit any file I want, then I reboot in windows 7 and I found my file that I edit from Ubuntu. so what is advantage of deep freeze it's useless?
3. When the windows logo appears rappidly press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open task manager before the windows start up so it means immediatly after the welcome screen dissappears and then click on Task Manager.
Hello sir, i need to ask a question for you, how to go back to my windows 8 operating system without any cd or flash drive,, ? Because ryt now i am using windows 7 ultimate, i downgrade my windows 8 to windows 7, my laptop is lenovo G580, and if i will go back to windows 8, i dont want my files to losss , is there any way of it? I like deep freeze but I like RollBack RX better as it can handle multiple snapshots / baselines. The makers of Rollback RX Horizon Data Systems has a freeware product that works almost like deep freeze which holds 1 snapshot and restores on reboot of the machine. It does not have the file exclusion areas what deep freeze calls thaw spaces but If you have windows setup with GPO correctly to redirect all userdata to network storage /Server/SAN/NAS/ etc. then this freware product may work great for you.
Changing the date only works on Deep Freeze evaluation version, if it still works at all. Your school likely has Deep Freeze Enterprise. You can remove Deep Freeze if you have administrator account on the machine (if you truly understand how). If you don't have admin level account, that is the first thing to acquire. Let that be your first challenge. There are two versions of Deep Freeze, Deep Freeze Standard for a standalone workstation, and Deep Freeze Enterprise for a network of client computers. DF Enterprise uses OTP's (One Time Passwords) in addition to a regular password. DF Standard uses only a regular password. The password is stored in persi0.sys in the c:\ root. But you won't be able to delete it or unlock it, even as administrator. There are workarounds though. First get admin. PLEASE do not try to manually uninstall Deep Freeze when it is thawed. If you don't delete all the relevant registry entries and Deep Freeze driver you will make your windows unbootable.

I wrote a tiny C# app a while back that displays the hostname, ip address, imaged date, thaw status (we use DeepFreeze), current domain, and the current date/time, to display on the welcome screen of our Windows 7 lab machines. This was to replace our previous information block, which was set statically at startup and actually embedded text into the background, with something a little more dynamic and functional. The app uses a Timer to update the ip address, deepfreeze status, and clock every second, and it checks to see if a user has logged in and kills itself when it detects such a condition.
