[Euphoria'13] Standup Comedy Act option

Hi Guys,

I got a chance to talk to Chuck Gopal and he was quite excited to come to our campus and do a standup comedy show.

Chuck (aka Deepak Gopalkrishan) is a MICA alumni and is currently working in Ogilvy. He makes a lot of cartoons for PagalGuy and is quite active in the standup comedy scene.

Now, there are a few issues if we call him:
1) Optumiz is doing a comedy competition in Euphoria. In their event, participants can do anything on stage and it is not necessarily standup comedy.
2) Chuck will charge Rs. 5000/- for the show. So, we will have to pitch in for sponsorship to make this event work out.

Considering all this, what do you all think guys? Please pour in your thoughts.

i think the stand up thing is feasible .And the rate is manageable
right.But then will it be overshadowed cos of Euphoria's event.That
cant be predicted and we will have to stand by our event and believe
that people will come for the event.

I don't think Optimuz event should be an issue, as far as sponsorship is concerned getting Rs. 5000 in cash can be a herculean task given the short time. I am sure if we would be able to do it, what do u guys think?

Brilliant idea. Something different and which people will definitely enjoy. Plus most of our batch was on Pagalguy knows who this guy is and we will get a great turnout for this event if we publicise it well.

We should definitely consider it and it will also sync well with the Euphoria theme. We can all work out something on sponsorship. Pitching it under the banner of Euphoria will definitely make things a lot easier.

Yea I agree.. This is a very diFferent concept.. We should definitely consider it.. Nd yaa sponsorship can be worked out, if we decide soon enough.

It is a good idea. We shud do it. It won't take any effort. We can create hype by posting his videos on the NM page etc. People will look forward to it.
I second Siddhi. We need to find if its negotiable. And also ask seniors if we can spare 5k. I mean Conquest projects are getn done. Can we spare 5?

1. Is Optumiz doing ROFL this year? I believe most of their resources are diverted towards TEDx so check again if you haven't.

2. Get the right classroom (714 / 715 / 710). (Seminar / Juhu Jagruti would cost 3-5k more). JRM grounds is also a possibility. Council usually books it for Euphoria. If this works out, then getting sponsors would be easier (since visibility and other things would be greater)

About sponsorship, I think you should give a shot at getting sponsors first (cash / in-kind whatever is feasible). That is the only prep needed for the event, if you look at it. 

If nothing else works out, we will try to arrange money from our existing funds. Note that money has barely started trickling in and the first priority is to hand over prize money to winners of past events. So liquid cash is difficult to get in the next 15-20 days. Also, the college cuts a 10-15% of tax of whatever money we get in. So more the cash, the better it is.

i asked somebody from optimuz .they are having a comedy event for euphoria .i agree with everyone regarding the event.it is a great idea..people will come to watch..will try and find out more specific details abt optimuz event

Calling this guy will seem fun and something different that NjM has come up with!!

However it also shud not come out as we calling him just for the sake of doing something in Euphoria, just as a regular course.
How much ever fun euphoria is meant to be we shud get atleast that 10% of NjM into it through some kind of marketing.....either by asking this guy to introduce some marketing into his stand up comedy hence making it different from optimiz or by bringing and all together different event like a marketing taboo etc

Plus getting crowd for the stand up cud be difficult, unless we give some incentives to the janta.

Sponsorship- I feel asking for a 5k only will dilute the whole event and its value, hence atleast 10k shud be asked for in our proposals!
Also knowing LMS experience, atleast 2 weeks are required by every company to agree to provide the money.....hence we need to start as soon as we get to college, 1st week or maybe even now!!

Once we get the approval, we can talk about sponsorships.

As far as sponsorship calls are concerned we should have started yesterday. About introducing marketing in everything, that's not exactly necessary but Chuck Gopal's comedy relates to MBA so I guess it will relate to NJM. He definitely the right person.

Even I am of the opinion that a Stand- up , no matter how cool it sounds , is not a typical Njm type event. Another thing which keeps me against this event is that it is being done by another cell in the college. Thus, the event will lose its exclusivity..
