I just wanted to let you know, I work for a cooperate arm of Safeway called RSSI, which does their independent store audits very part time and I emailed our Seattle division to ask if there was any news of a new store and their official response to me was they are unable to confirm either way due to confidentiality.

So take that statement as you need but to me it wasn't disputed...so keep that in the back of you mind as we move forward that we might want to identify several sights.

All the best,

My initial suggestion for a "back-up" site would be the old Salvation Army Thrift Shop location next to the bowling alley.  It's smaller, but it would be a start...and would be easy to move to the Foodland location from if Safeway went in and then pulled out.

Sounds like the response we got when the rumors of A&P closing first started. --Judy
