Dear all,

Ballots will be mailed to all Founding Members per the Co-op bylaws.  You may vote by mail or in person at the meeting.  Please stay tuned for a separate communication to Founding Members only concerning nominations.

Greetings everyone,

Since our last update to you on August 6th, we continue to receive Founding Member contributions.  As of today, we’ve raised a total of $17,750.

About a week ago, we submitted our "Seed Grant" application to the Food Co-op Initiative.  We are extremely grateful for the tremendous letters of support we received from a number of community organizations, individuals, businesses, and U.S. Senator Mark Begich.  We anticipate hearing whether we have been awarded a grant by approximately mid-September.

We have also contacted Tyler Myers of the Myers Group and shared with him our community's interest and efforts in forming a co-op.  Mr. Myers was gracious and optimistic about Juneau and looks forward to meeting with us.  We plan to connect with him in person as soon as schedules allow.

In light of the expectation that the existing Foodland space will be occupied by a full service grocer within the next few weeks, we are tailoring the scope of the market study with this in mind.   We have sought out additional market analysis firms and are currently waiting for a second proposal that will look at a range of scenarios. We expect to finalize discussions, decide on a firm, and sign a contract for the study within the next 7-10 days.

In accordance with our by-laws, we will hold the first Membership meeting for Founding Members on Friday, September 21 at 5:00 PM, at the Fellowship Hall in the Northern Light Church.  Formal notice to Founding Members will go out by U.S. mail as well as email.  The mailing will include membership cards, an agenda, and the membership list for nominating candidates for the Co-op Board of Directors.

If you or someone you know is still interested in becoming a Founding Member, it’s not too late and we would love to have you!   Just contact us at capitalcity...@gmail.com and we’ll be pleased to provide you with a membership form.  Alternatively, anyone who arrives at the September 21 membership meeting and signs up as a Founding Member prior to the call to order will be eligible to vote.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Capital City Market Co-op!

Best regards,

on a completely different subject, I will be your board contact/house manager for
your chamber recital on Sept 14. I don't plan on focusing on this until the
Whalewatch cruise is over on Sept 1, but I don't think it will take that much to
round up a crew. Let me know what sort of personnel you'll need, and other details
you want me to worry about.

FYI, the board decided to not provide cookies at these chamber concerts, just
coffee and punch. I hope this isn't upsetting to you!

cheers,

jetta

Apologies to the listserv, I know Jetta did not intend this; a hazard of the Google-groups mechanics.

In any event, you're all invited to the JSO chamber recital on September 14 at the Northern Light Church!

That said...it raises an interesting issue:  is it possible that the Co-op could print out brochures to be distributed at the Henry Rollins concert on Sept 8th?  An audience that showed up to hear an anti-capitalist singer/poet would probably be very interested in backing the Co-op.
