Calhoun Ave Rebuild - pre-meeting and public meeting

Hi Neighbors,

As you may have heard, the city is holding a public meeting on Tuesday 12/22 at 6:30pm to discuss the rebuild of Calhoun Avenue. I know many of us have been looking forward to better sidewalks and a calmer street for years.

However, we were alarmed to learn that the CBJ was not planning to make the sidewalks any wider. On further reflection, that's understandable given how narrow the road is. My husband and I then proposed a one-way loop that could help calm/reduce traffic and increase safety for walkers and bikers (attached). 

As you can see in the CBJ's meeting announcement (also attached) the fire department raised concerns about accessing downtown. However, when I talked with the Fire Chief earlier this week, he was open to considering other alternatives and is planning to attend Tuesday's meeting. 

My daughter and I marked up the attached map to give you an idea of how traffic might flow while still allowing fire trucks to get downtown quickly. 

We would love to get a sense of the neighborhood. Do you like this idea? Do you have other ideas you'd like to share? How can we make the most of this once-in-a-generation rebuild?
