Hello neighbors,
At the public meeting hosted by CBJ earlier this week we learned a bit more about the Calhoun rebuild:
1) The project was bumped up on CBJ's schedule because DOT finished the Egan rebuild earlier than expected due to the pandemic.
2) The engineering department has been tasked with a simple rebuild of the existing infrastructure; it is within the Planning Commission's and Assembly's authority to determine if broader issues of connection, safety, and community design should be taken into consideration.
Some of the documents that the CBJ shared are available
here.
The Planning Commission will be holding a hearing on this issue on January 12th at 7pm. Official comments are due to the Planning Commission staff by Monday, December 28th. Comments can also be sent directly to Planning Commission members until January 11th.
We hope to submit this
Statement of Interest from the Downtown Neighborhood Association to the Planning Commission on December 28th. If you would like to add your name you can do so
here.
Key points to include might be:
* Calhoun is an important corridor for all of the people who live, work, and visit downtown.
* The safety issues along the corridor have been well-documented and as currently designed significantly impact downtown walkability and bikeability.
* This is a once in a generation opportunity to address these safety and design issues; it's worth it to take the time to do it right.
Sharing your personal experiences are especially powerful.
Thanks for passing this along to anyone else who may be interested (and apologies for cross-posting.)
