Hi Neighbors,

The City and Borough of Juneau is planning to rebuild Calhoun Ave. This is the street that the Governor's House and my family's residence are on.

We clearly have an interest in this project, but we also know that our street is a main pedestrian corridor connecting downtown businesses, homes, schools, and parks, including residents of the Flats, Berhends, and Highlands neighborhoods. My husband and I were alarmed to learn that the current design does not call for widening the sidewalks to make them safer and compliant with standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We also think that, since redoing streets occurs every couple of decades, CBJ should take the opportunity to look comprehensively at how this street ties in with adjacent neighborhoods.

CBJ expects to hold a public hearing in the near future - possibly December 22nd. In the meantime, if you have concerns about safety along this route, you could share those with:

And if you'd like to see the letter and a proposed alternative we shared with the city, please send me an email or give me a call.

Thanks,
- Emily Ferry & Demian Schane
