Dear Friends,

I thought about connection several times yesterday...

Last evening I made a quick stop at a grocery store.  The clerk who rang up my purchases didn’t look at me and didn’t greet me.  While she was scanning my groceries, she picked up the phone and punched in some numbers.  Then she said in the phone, “509.”  I waited, wondering if that was the code for “I need a price check on blueberries.”  Then she said it again in the phone, “509.”  I happened to glance down at the credit card pin pad and saw that the total I owed was $5.09.  Ah!  So she was talking to ME!  I paid for my groceries, said thank you and left.  She never did look at me or say anything else at all.

I really wanted to connect with that clerk, and somehow I missed an opportunity.  I left thinking of what I would teach if I was doing an in-service on “Connecting with the Customer” at that store.  Today is another day, and I’ll see what I can do with the opportunities that come my way.

Today is my birthday, and I’m advertising it to you to Connect and party with you by email!  Today I am 63 years old and am celebrating all kinds of things.  For example, hooray for getting older!  Have a treat today for my birthday, and remember me when you enjoy it.  Thank you for celebrating with me.  It’s WONDERFUL to CONNECT with you in this way on my birthday.

Dear Peggy and Everyone, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! And thank you for taking the lead on our needs exercise. I thought about connection several times yesterday too. I had RSVP'd 'maybe' to a new friend's birthday party last night and was waffling about whether to go or not. The party started at 7pm and at 6:30 I was still working, hadn't even showered and would have to drive at least 30 minutes to get there. I was tempted to not go but decided I would because I wanted to make some new connections for the new year. One time last year I went to a party she invited me to and while I talked to quite a few people never felt like I really connected with anyone. This time as I was driving to the party I set the intention to draw to me people that I would enjoy connecting with and what a difference! The last time I felt like I was having to work hard to talk to people and this time people that I enjoyed talking to were seeking me out! I had a great time and feel like I connected with people that I had never met before and others that I had met before but never felt a connection with. Definitely a powerful lesson for me about intention. Have a fabulous 63rd birthday today Peggy! I am so glad that you initiated a connection today by sharing from your heart because I feel connected to you too through your email. May today be the start of your best decade ever! Love, Mahadevi

Happy late birthday, Peggy.

Sophia and I have just returned form the first week of Leadership Program 2014, put on the the Bay area NVC.  It was terrific! Lots of opportunities to give and receive empathy and new learning from trainers we have not worked with before. We want to rewrite our whole course outline, but unfortunately, the first class is Wednesday so we probably will not be able to.
