Hi!

I've just finished Reading 32 (I am reading them in order) and I have
realized that the FRA part is 80% new to me so I think it will take a
lot longer than I initially thought. I was hoping I would have April
and May for reviewing and practice problems and mock exams but it
looks like 1 month will have to do it.

How is everybody else doing?

Regards,
Costin

Wait till you get to readings 36 through 39! Luckily, I purchased
Stalla CFA 2010 lectures and listening to a real person's (CFA)
explanations and examples helped alot. On the other hand, there are
differences between the 2010 and 2011 curriculums, so I have to keep
that in the back of my mind. Best of luck!

Readings 36, 37 and 39 have many differences between 2010 and 2011
LOS's. Here's a link that might help with that:

I was expecting SS 9 to be a killer... but now you've really scared me :).

Seems like more things were added to the 2011 curriculum. I have been
busy at work this week. I just managed to do two readings on Equity. I
was aiming to finish Equity and Fixed Income first in case I get
called up for an interview, then at least I would feel ready.

Don't worry about FRA, Costin. There shouldn't be any complex
formulaes to remember, just knowing how to analyse financial
statements. Don't forget to make your own list of the ratios.

Hello all

I am vikrant, I gave CFA L1 exam in december, now studying for JUne
exam since I was underprepared hence sure to fail. However enough is
enough and I wanna start preparing seriously this time around. As I
have taken CFA pledge I am not allowed to disclose exam details ,
however there are some areas which are sure to be examined and we can
surely discuss along those lines.

My study plan is as follows
Starting with
1. Corporate FInance Equity and portfolio easy topic but I was
underprepared esp for portfolio and equity also there are many changes
from 2010 so wanna finish this in 15-20 days
2. Fixed Income and Derivatives - IMHO the most difficult area for me
and I wanna stress on this more this time around.
3. Quants - will start in mid january this if u can grasp is a
potentially scoring area
4. FRA - guys if u wanna do CFA u simply gotta enjoy this, u can't
runaway from this. As u guessed it correct this is my fav area and m
sure to get more than 90 even in dec exam
5. Eco - again a bit of a issue for me
6. Ethics - saving the most imp. Area for the last and I found out the
most tricky in Dec exam most of the Qs had 2 answers that seemed
correct and I want it to be fresh in my mind this time around.

Hi Vikrant,

Ok, let's say you screwed up Fixed Income and Derivatives, but it
sounds like you did well in FRA. Are you sure you're going to fail?

I've just started on reading Fixed Income.

Hi

I think in Mumbai many people were saying that exam was pretty easy and i frankly found it to be average. So if MPS is going to be >70 this time around my chances are pretty slim.

Besides even if i pass (which is remote :-) ), i thought it is better to not stop revising basics (pretty much all curriculum of L1 is basi IMHO ) since this is the base on which u build in subsequent levels.

In India, we are gonna go IFRS way this april, but frankly here right now Indian GAAP is what is followed, so i found US G.A.A.P. and IFRS pretty exciting in my L1 exam.

I think i screwed up Derivatives,Fixed Income, and especially Ethics big time so m doubtful of clearing. rest were 5ne.
Regards,
Vikrant

@Vikrant:

You're right. Level 2 builds on what we've learnt in Level 1. I've
also heard that the MPS never went above 70. Screwing up Ethics is a
bit of a problem though. Regardless of whatever happens, let's build
up our momentum for June 2011

Cheers.

Hi All

I am Hassan from the UK and have just received the CFAI curriculum
yesterday for June 11 exam and starting reading today! I might be far
behind you but I am just gonna give it a go and would like to join
your group.

I am from Civil engineering background and I have been told about the
CFA a month ago, I spent many of hours searching and decided to go for
it. its completely new to me and I am starting with Ethics so I can
review it again at later stage. I am going to get Schweser notes and
practice question very soon, my plan is to spent at last 20 hours a
week until April to finish and have May for exam practices, but still
will do practices after I complete each topic.

Hi Costin, i downloaded your study schedule and look very good :) , I
am hoping to finish study session 1 in two weeks as its completely new
to me.

Thanks

Good luck to you, Hassan. Keep the consistency in your schedule and
all should go well. Are you trying to make the jump to the equity/
fixed-income role or are you just doing this for the love of it? =)

Hi everyone. I am appearing for level 3 this june.
Just want to share few things.
I am from engineering background, so it took time to study FRA during
level 1 . But one thing i realised that FRA is most logic and before
you move on to equity and corporate finance, is important that your
accounting concepts are very clear. If you plan to be in equity or
corporate finance, make sure that you devote more time so that your
FSA concepts become clear.

If you have any doubts or anything, do let me know. I will glad t give
my inputs :).

Hey, I was wondering since you did level 1 that is it possible to pass
CFA level 1 with just the scwheser notes. I do not want to read the CFAI
books I find them very wordy and harder to understand than the scweser
books. What would be your opinion?

Yes, it is very much possible with just schweser notes. But it will be very exam oriented study. So if you are working and have the practical knowledge of how capital markets work, then shweser will be enough.
Morever if you have time contraint then go for shweser. But make sure that if you are not clear about a concept, you are referring CFAI books.

Regards.

What are your thoughts on using the 2010 Schweser Notes for the 2011 test? I received those for free and I don't want to spend anymore money if it doesnt make a difference

Generally there is not much difference in the notes but if CFA has included more topics, then you need to check them out. You can verify the syllabus by comparing it with CFAI books. If its just the qustion of few chapters then, you need not buy new shweser notes.
