Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer's Curse is a 2015 fantasy adventure film directed by Colin Teague and starring Julian Morris, Tamzin Merchant, Ben Kingsley, and Jassa Ahluwalia. It is the third installment in the Dragonheart series, but it is not a direct sequel to the previous films. Instead, it tells a new story set in medieval England, where a young aspiring knight named Gareth (Morris) befriends a dragon named Drago (Kingsley) who has landed on Earth via a comet. Together, they embark on a quest to stop an evil sorcerer from unleashing a dark force that threatens both humans and dragons.
The Plot
The film begins with Gareth, a squire for a corrupt warlord named Sir Horsa (Jonjo O'Neill), who dreams of becoming a knight. However, he is dismissed from his service after he fails to collect enough money from the peasants under Horsa's protection. That night, he witnesses a comet falling from the sky and decides to follow it, hoping to find some treasure that would help him pay for his knighthood. He crosses Hadrian's Wall and enters the territory of the Picts, a tribe of warriors who are at war with the Romans.
There, he discovers that the comet was actually a dragon egg that hatched into Drago, a majestic creature who can speak and share his heart with anyone who touches him. Gareth saves Drago from being killed by some Pict hunters and forms a bond with him. Drago tells Gareth that he has come to Earth to protect his other three eggs, which are hidden in different locations. However, they are also sought by an evil sorcerer named Lorne (Dominic Mafham), who wants to use them for a dark ritual that would grant him immense power.
Gareth and Drago team up with Rhonu (Merchant), a Pict princess who is also a skilled archer, and her brother Traevor (Ahluwalia), who is the leader of their tribe. They face many dangers and enemies along the way, including Lorne's henchmen, a band of mercenaries led by Sir Horsa, and a rogue dragon named Griffin (voiced by Harry Lister Smith), who is jealous of Drago's abilities. They also encounter some allies, such as Brude (Jake Curran), a Roman soldier who has befriended the Picts, and Kara (Duncan Preston), an old hermit who knows the secrets of dragon lore.
The Review
Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer's Curse is an enjoyable film that offers a good mix of action, humor, romance, and fantasy. The film does not require any prior knowledge of the Dragonheart series, as it stands on its own as a separate story.
