Note: If your system doesn't have OpenGL 2 support or if it's not working properly, please add the option "--software-renderer" at the end of the last line of the script gcompris-qt.sh. Another way is to edit the configuration file (in /.config/gcompris-qt/gcompris-qt.conf): find the line renderer=auto , replace auto with software and save the file.

You can create a desktop launcher for the children and pass in it the options you need (--config-dir and/or --database). Here's an example: "C:\Program Files\Gcompris\gcompris.exe" -b C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\gcconfig\gc.db

You can create another desktop launcher for the teacher. It must include the --administration option and the --database that points to your database. Here's an example: "C:\Program Files\Gcompris\gcompris.exe" -a -b C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\gcconfig\gc.db

GCompris can be made portable very easily by installing it on the target thumb drive and adding in its directory a gcompris.conf configuration file which includes a local user and configuration directory. The directory are specified as relative to the gcompris.exe binary.

The latest version of gcompris-qt is 0.97; the version I have installed reports 17.05 with 2013 copyright. I assume its old cuz it doesn't have all the options or games we're used to (from 0.96 installed under another distro), but no idea how the "17.05" is related to the gcompris version... they still haven't got to 1.0! While researching this I see on -en.html they have a generic installer that may work (says it only needs linux 3.1) so I'll try it after posting, why not...

Although more important to me than updating gcompris is getting zsnes to exit or getting retroarch built. The old gcompris/supertux etc still work fine. But console emu adds a zillion games, so kinda a big deal for my use case.

I tried all the gcompris versions available back to 0.5 from 2015 without success. They either reported needing gblibc 2.17, or crashed trying to start, or in the case of 0.5, sound and pointer but no video. So I tried to make glibc 2.17 and got stuck, and started a separate thread on that.

I recharged and updated, and saw those apps update, but don't see any different behavior.... supertux and gcompris still work fine, but still ancient. zsnes still wont exit w/o crashing. froggato, tuxmath, and tuxxtype still don't work.... the only change I found is that tuxtype can now uninstall...

My husband built a computer for our 3 year old granddaughter. I am supposed to download the educational games for her to play. I downloaded the gcompris suite and the administration, however, when I go the the reading activities , the "letters", I get an error message that says "Error: this activity requires that you first install the packages with GCompris voices for the locale 'en' or 'en'.

you need to install another 'package' - it contains some voices for gcompris, to do this you'll need to use the 'synaptic package manager' which you can find in system -> adminstration -> synaptic package manager

I have updated gcompris to version gcompris-qt 2.1 but I have the same problem.
It starts, but when I choose a game it stops to work. I can only press "esc" and gcompris quit
It worked fine until 2 day ago. I use kwin_wayland & wayland since more than a month.

I noticed that I have the problem only I use gcompris in full-screen mode. So, I choose game in not-full-screen mode and after I can play or in full-screen o not-full-screen. However It is a problem related to gcompris, KDE (my window manager) and wayland.

GCompris and GComprisAdministration activities create the same journal object with application/x-gcompris mimetype. So, when user creates journal object with GComprisAdministration activity, this object will be opened in GCompis activity by default. Use "Open with" context palette option to resume object in GComprisAdministration.
