Ihave a MECOOL M8s Pro+ ready to go with LibreELEC on the SD card but cannot find the reset button.
I've tried toothpicks and paperclips but still can't find the reset. Need some guidance here.
TIA
The Pro L doesn't have a reset button, the Pro + does. It is hidden behind the air vent and not easy to press. I did find removing the chrome handle part of a small bulldog clip worked well in pressing it down. Easier obviously to use the App.
Tip. Make sure you are on the latest stable version of LE (LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2-8.2.3.1 i think the most current is) and make sure to add in the appropriate device tree file.
WRXTASY made a folder for the appropriate device tree and remote config files for the Mecool box.
...With no reset switch, you can trigger USB detection (and LibreELEC installation) by typing "reboot update" in a terminal window.
The local terminal app shows after being enabled in Settings->Developer Options. (This must be revealed by clicking Settings->About->Build 7 times.)
Thank you for that information.
i have read that LE thread and understand some of it.
The thing that seems unusual is that when in android the box gets good WiFi reception.
It's only when I boot to LE Kodi the WiFi is not there.
Is there a different LE Kodi build I should be looking at ?
Ethernet!
And if that is not possible, pay someone to make it possible-not that expensive these days or DIY. Some of those flat Ethernet cables on ebay go well running under carpets or tucked under skirting boards
Consider relocating router to somewhere more practical to facilitate an Ethernet connection with your box.
In the end, Ethernet will give you the least amount of issues and it is worth the investment.
I would try creating a fresh SD card LibreELEC setup again. Double check you're using the correct files. I used the file LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2-8.2.3.1-temp_sensor_disabled.img.gz. I downloaded the device tree dtb.img and remote.conf file thanks to WRXTASY from here
Finally got round to trying this today, worked like charm, thanks for the advice. I have WiFi.
The only problem now is Kodi is not playing nice.
Is it possible to reset or reinstall Kodi to remove any current settings.?
I'm trying to populate the 'Movies' and 'TV Shows' from a HDD plugged into the box, as I did in Kodi on my win 10 PC.
It recognises the HDD and the files but maybe I stuffed up the method of adding them to the library, because when I go back to the main screen it says the library is empty.
So I though if I could reset Kodi to default or reinstall it I could start again (more carefully)
Hmm, I am using a samba server, not a plugged in HDD, but kodi works the same way with the Mecool as it always has done using my Minix U1. Having said that, I don't think the method of adding the video libraries is very intuitive, but if you can do it using kodi on windows I guess you know what you're doing. Sorry I can't be of more help!
apologies for hijacking the topic but i figured it was better than starting a new one. Now trying to install LibreELEC on my MecoolM8S Pro L box, i really didn't want to stuff around with a reset button, anyway i can't see one thru the vent, would rather not pull the box apart either.
I downloaded from the .gz file format, wrote to sd card with sd creator app, booted into regular pre installed android, inserted sd card, opened 'Reboot to LibreELEC_v1.1' but upon reboot the screen is stuck on the Mecool logo & red light on the box.
Box works fine on the pre installed Android, made sure i checked that before trying this. I also checked on the laptop the files wrote to the sd card ok, sd card volume label got auto changed to LIBRELEC so seems to have written ok.
ok i must've been a bit tired at the time lol, thanks will try it
edit: sorry another stupid Q, but which one should i download for wireless lan? will gxm_q201_2g.dtb be ok for all modems? i have an old Billion 7800N. I read some people have trouble with wireless on this device under Libreelect but others have made it work *shrug* obviously i'd rather get wireless working if possible....
edit: finally got it to boot into LibreELEC from sd card, woohoo, made some progress ;) Turns out i needed the gxm_q201_3g.dtb file, since i have the 3gb model, duh! So its installed, but voice remote is not working, had to dust off a usb kb to plug in. Wi fi not working, it can see the network but won't connect, possibly too far away/not a clear enough line for signal, but it was working perfectly in Android in the same position any ideas? much thanks.
