A lot of young basketball players want to be good players and great
dunkers like Michael Jordan, Cobe Bryant, Vince Carter... To get their
you don't only need great technique but also good fitness preparation
and great vertical jump which will make it possible for them to dunk
and get the crowd on the feet.
A lot of people think that when dunking the most important thing is
height, but they are wrong. There have been many small players in the
NBA who were able to dunk. Just to mention Spud Webb who was only 5ft
7 inches (170cm) tall, but won the NBA slam dunk competition. His
dunks were amazing he was doing elevator two-handed double pump dunk,
the one-handed off the backboard one-handed jam, a 360-degree
helicopter one-handed dunk etc. Many people that are 6feet 6inches
(200cm) tall can't do dunks like these and these only shows us how
vertical jump really is important.
To improve vertical jump you have to combine 2 things training and
resting. When people train they feel tension in the muscle and that
makes them thing that muscle is growing, that usually makes people
want to train harder and more often but that gives bad results.
Because during a training muscle is being broken down and after a
training when you are resting muscles start to repair and that builds
them up. You should always keep in mind that muscles don't build up
during a training bud after a training. And here comes the other
important thing, food. If you want your muscles to build up fast you
have to eat a lot of proteins which are found mostly in meat.
So to be able to play and dunk good you have to train your vertical
jump, rest and eat a lot of proteins.
