perhaps that was too terse
I have had a request for it as a way to inform those of us here who would like to be so informed of meme adjacent aor otherwise congruent presentations, forums &tc

I could create something like that. Is the intention for in-person meetups (which would be cool) or other things?

Yes it is!

additionally, magistrates of other meetups holding an event of interest to people interested in Julia can notify the meetup...
by emailing members of the meetup who have not set their Julia meetup privacy settings to prevent getting other's email.

voice-of-experience:  it is important to set the email and privacy options after joining a meetup group:

Where? In NYC? Boston? Bay area? Meetups are inherently local. Not sure I see the value. Maybe we'd be better off with a julia-users mailing list with regular announcements of code changes, new packages, events, publications, but not the back and forth about language and package design issues?

+1 for julia-users (gathering new [pre]package info and how-to notes in their own place/s is reason enough)

meetups are local and if a local same-interest group gets recurring participation the trans-local community gains imho
nonetheless, they occur only with the recurring availability of an appropriate location -- maybe it is too soon for that

... if consensus is 'not right now' ...  in a month or so I will revisit this as an actor rather than as message-carrier ...
