Happy New Year!

I was preparing my lecture notebooks and noticed that JuliaBox no longer allows the use of python kernels. This is really a shame since JuliaBox's ability to log in and save work is really important when students are developing code. So, my questions:

Why were python kernels dropped? Are they coming back?

If they were dropped on purpose, can someone recommend an alternative with log-in capabilities. I haven't been able to find anything half as well put together as JuliaBox.

As I said to Viral when he asked about University use, I like Julia and have some student projects using it, but I can't expect the students to learn a new language AND numerical hydrodynamics at the same time. They would revolt! :-)

Hi Gabe. Happy new year! We are really glad you like JuliaBox. We are now at a point where we will soon have to be footing the bill for free JuliaBox usage ourselves. In order to keep the support work and costs manageable, we are focussing on the Julia experience going forward.

We can consider bringing Python and R kernels in the future in the right circumstances. In either case, python and R will continue to be available through PyCall and Rcall - but I understand that is not the use case you are looking for.

If it helps, we can help you set up a local JuliaBox instance at the university with all the same features and with python kernels.

That would be great! How can I get that started?
