Dear all,

I am excited to announce that a JuliaAstro project has been accepted for the Google Summer of Code 2017: https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/organizations/6364832820363264/#5088075618189312  As far as I know, this is the first time ever an astronomy software written in Julia gets accepted for the GSoC.

Kumar Prasun will work on porting more functions from IDL Astronomy User's Library to the AstroLib.jl package.  He already contributed a few patches to AstroLib.jl and we are looking forward to seeing more and more during next summer.  Kumar will be mentored by Kyle Barbary and me.

Let me thank the OpenAstronomy organization for giving us this great opportunity.

Bye,
Mosè

Hello folks,

I'm Kumar Prasun (@TestSubjector), currently wrapping up my second year as a dual degree undergraduate in B.E Computer Science and M.Sc in Mathematics at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, India.

As Mosè already said, my project "Porting the IDL Astronomy User's Library to Julia" has been accepted for Google Summer of Code 2017.
I'm grateful to both Mosè and Kyle, who have been very helpful with regards to my doubts and queries throughout the GSoC application period .

I'm still a relative newcomer to language, so I would really appreciate suggestions and comments on any of my contributions to AstroLib.jl.

Lastly, I'm really happy to be able to become a part of this community. The next few months should be exciting!
Thanks for reading.

Regards,
Kumar
