Dear all, 

I was hoping whether anyone could help me with any more detail on Jules Verne’s relationship with the Paris based newspaper magnate Gordon Bennett. Attached is a draft article on what I  know about Bennett’s relationship with Verne and if anyone can contribute any more information I would be very grateful.

Hello John, I haven’t read it all. But I can tell you one detail – "In the Year 2889" was written by Michel Verne. Jules later reworked the story a bit and the title was changed to "La journée d’un journaliste américain en 2890":

«Le texte paraît pour la première fois en anglais, sous le titre In the year 2889, dans la revue new-yorkaise The Forum¹. Il est intégralement de la main de Michel Verne, comme le dit Jules Verne à son éditeur Louis-Jules Hetzel dans une lettre du 29 janvier 1889 : « [...] il a été intégralement écrit par lui (ceci entre nous)... »².

En français, il est publié en 1890 dans les Mémoires de l'Académie d'Amiens, sous le titre La journée d'un journaliste américain en 2890³.»
