I understand your point
"Moreover, when it comes to translation, I, at least, would want a human doing it because language and literature are expressions of human experience. Only a human being who has lived in and experienced those two languages can translate a human experience or expression across language, in my opinion."

Remember, when dealing with Verne and his times, we have not experienced it. The language and technical lexicon were very different. We are dependent on data from the period and our limited access to all the data potentially available. Our lack of data limits our ability to analyze and validate - but of course that is the fun of research. This is where, in the not too distant future, AI will be able to analyze massive data .  AI is nothing to fear- I believe it will become a great research tool for Verne research, finding nuggets of missed data and new correlations to look at for validity.

Well I enjoy kicking a dead horse more than breaking one in

In annotating texts artificial intelligence is good on the basic stuff like looking up in Wikipedia or googling, but it fails badly when it comes to the more sophisticated or more human stuff, connected to Verne’s life, to other works or to a wider perspective.
