Watching the opening show for the Olympic Games in Paris, waiting for some JV references. Bit disappointed in the library scenes, where they only show classic titles to do with love. Then, in the bit after the Musée d'Orsay, we get the iconic image of the moon from Mélies' 1902 film, directly followed by a submarine that may or may not be supposed to represent the Nautilus. It looks far too disneyfied... and is manned by Minions!

I take the balloon as a JV reference🫠

This is a reason why I record all Olympic opening ceremonies in order to review at my leisure and looking at the section based in the library, I believe the following are direct Verne references:

The rocket sailing past the balloon (Journey to the Moon) along with the Moon with something in its eye

Indirect Verne references:

The Minion's submarine (which in some quarters looks a bit Nautilus in design)

However, I do know that other forums are fuming that Alexandre Dumas was blanked in favour of Victor Hugo

I took the balloon to be the first montgolfière and the rocket to be an Ariane.

I deeply hate the new woke ideas. He f*cking published between 1850-1905!!
