Hi Dennis and all,
we were briefly talking about the Czech 1981 film version of the The Castle of the Carpathians during the February 8 virtual Forum meeting. There are several DVD issues available. The Czech one has English subtitles (inadequate when it comes to wordplays) https://www.amazon.com/Tajemstvi-Karpatech-Mysterious-Castle-Carpathians/dp/B00BH2OY66/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=tajemstv%C3%AD+hradu+v+karpatech&qid=1613078966&s=music&sr=1-1
The German issue has both German and Czech soundtrack https://www.amazon.de/Jules-Verne-Geheimnis-Burg-Karpaten/dp/B00UW6ADWM/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=Das+Geheimnis+der+Burg+in+den+Karpaten&qid=1613077643&sr=8-1
The French issue is in Czech with French subtitles manifestly based on the English ones of the Czech DVD https://www.amazon.fr/chateau-Carpathes-Michal-Docolomansky/dp/B00KH7CVEY/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=chateau+carpathes+lipsky&qid=1613077498&s=dvd&sr=1-1
Here is the English academic translation of dialogues with most wordplays and language characterization of speakers preserved https://is.muni.cz/th/xfow9/finished4.doc
Here is another thesis pointing to the puns in the dialogues, this time in the German soundtrack https://theses.cz/id/4sxi6f/Bakalarska_prace_Maxi_Petereit.pdf
Best
Jan
