What the title says. I'm in Germany, call recording is disabled here. I know I can enable the call recording feature for Germany in source and then compile myself, but is there a more practical way?

To anyone with a fairphone 5 because I only have the 4. Does this app work with 2 way recording? I know it works for the fairphone 4 with lineage very well. Planning to buy a second fairphone but this is a deal breaker for me. Hoping someone can confirm that call recording from both parties work with the FP5.

I am experimenting with Call Recorder - Skvalex (what i used to use), but I am not sure I can get it to work without root (i.e., to record both sides of call) and without access to Google Play (i.e., to get license purchased and verified so that I can use it beyond 10 day trial). I will post back here with results in a few days.

Call Recorder - SKVALEX (Trial) is intended for automatic call recording. The app provides functionality to record both sides on devices with such support. But some devices don't have 2-way call recording support, or have issues with Bluetooth recording.

Also, the app provides wide functionality to manage recordings:
- Search recordings
- Conversion from one format to another (e.g WAV to FLAC/OPUS/MP3/etc.)
- Adding notes to recorded files
- In-call control button while call recording: you can easily start/stop recording during a call
- Enter to the app using password (or fingerprint)
- Auto clean-up - automatically removes old recordings according to rules set by you. Starred recordings ignored.
- Exceptions: you may set up phone numbers, contacts or groups for specific actions, like always record or do not
- Filename template: you can easily change structure of created files
- Cloud backup support
- Playback recording over main speaker or handset speaker
- Access recording from within contact info
- Call confirm: the app will ask you whether you want to make a call or not
- After call actions dialog: the app will ask what to do with a recorded call
- Vibrate on call start/end

UPDATE!!! I got got my bold beast back!! You may not like how. I flashed back to 11, despite both Samsung and their authorized repair guys telling me IT CANNOT BE DONE. All my apps that were broken now work. Just have to test Android auto. Good news is now cannot update unless I use my home internet, ie wifi. NEVER MAKING THAT MISTAKE AGAIN. So proud to have done this myself!!!
Added note on 4/08/22. I prefer to have a working phone, BB was one of 14 apps that broke with A12. BB and extreme call blocker were the must have apps that lead me to stay with android phones. I was at the point of either a new phone without 12, or moving to an iPhone. The fact that these 2 apps don't run on iPhone is why I am here. I bought a German motherboard but prior to installing that, I tried one more time to flash back to A11 and was successful. I will keep A11 until f'oogle decides to relent in their interference with these apps. I would think A12 would have been released to dsvs for testing prior to bombing all android phones. So much for customer satisfaction! If f'oogle doss not fix this, my next phone is an iPhone, pretty much if there is no BB, THERE WILL BE NO ANDROID FOR ME.

I am trialling Call Recorder by Lucky Mobile Apps on my samsung S20 FE. So far all calls have been recorded and uploaded to Dropbox using dropsync. Only issue was a 3 second break in replay using the app. Replaying original file .mp3 on Windows was perfect. Fingers crossed. Skyvalex had mixed reviews so I looked for higher rated option with recent communication from the developer.

Update - 2021-11-01
FYI: I tried Skvalex (v3.4.9) which worked. I used Magisk to install Skvalex ("Call Recorder - SKVALEX") which made necessary changes and installed the app. tested on 5 calls (using phone and Bluetooth headset) - my voice and the other person was recorded clearly.

Call Recorder - SKVALEX is intended for automatic call recording. The app provides functionality to record both sides on devices with such support. But some devices don't have 2-way call recording support, or have issues with Bluetooth recording.

These issues are not caused by the call recorder, actually they are caused by the manufacturer intentionally - the manufacturer disabled the call recording feature of your phone. You should install a powerful call recorder that can fix this problem, for example this Call Recorder.

The hardware of some phones don't support bluetooth call recording, for example Galaxy Note 2 GT-I7100, GT-7105, Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 etc that use the WM1811 audio chip. In this case all call recorders don't work.

The hardware of some phones support bluetooth call recording but the ROM doesn't support it, for example Galaxy Note3, Galaxy Note4, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S5 etc. In this case you should root your phone and install a call recorder that can fix this problem, for example Boldbeast Call Recorder, it can fix this problem for many phones.

Please note Galaxy phones have many variants, they are different from each other, for example Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 doesn't support bluetooth call recording, but Galaxy S3 SGH-I747, SCH-I535 may support it, or can be fixed.

Indeed almost all android phones' kernel support call recording perfectly, manufacturers usually disable the call recording feature out of the kernel (not in the kernel). If the recorder gets root access and it supports your phone it can fix the recording problem, no need to change the kernel.

Call Recorder is a mobile application designed to record and save any telephone conversations, and then play them back. Call recording starts from the moment a connection is established between the subscribers and ends after one of the interlocutors hangs up. At the same time, any of the calls recorded by the program can always be deleted.

Having set all the necessary settings, you can hide it and go about your business or work. Being in the background, the application will independently track all calls of the subscriber, and at the right time, start recording a telephone conversation. The fact that the conversation is being recorded will be notified by a red dot that appears in the status bar of the smartphone.

After the conversation is completed, a notification will appear on the screen that the recording has been saved. You can add a description or a specific title to it. All saved dialogues of the subscriber are automatically entered into the Inbox folder. In it, they can be viewed, sorted, deleted or transferred to the archive. In normal mode, the inbox can hold about 40 recent calls. However, in the settings menu, this value can be easily changed to a larger or smaller one.

Are you tired of missing important conversations on your phone? Look no further, the SKVALEX Call Recorder Magisk Module offers a reliable solution for recording both incoming and outgoing calls. Whether you want to capture all calls or only selected ones, this app has got you covered. And, if you need to share a recording, the app makes it easy to send it via email, SMS, or WhatsApp.

Are there any call recording (legal where I am) apps that work with graphene? I've tried cube acr as well as the call recorder app in f-droid and neither record audio. Those of you who have needed this functionality, which apps have worked for you. I'm on a pixel 6.

I used VOIP app Acrobits Groundwire on ios for years until very recently, when I did not want to be tracked by the cell provider. I used it on open wifi connections (via a personal VPN) to make calls. It has a lot of features, including automatic recording (optionally, with each party on their own channel) which I used and really liked. I am shortly going to be determining how/if it will run on GrapheneOS as it is available for Android. My guess is "not totally" as it very likely relies on Google's push service, however it may still work with polling and for outgoing calls. (I do not intend to install Play services at this time.)

VOIP providers like voip.ms can be configured to automatically record (and transcribe) calls, which eliminates the need for on-device recording. In my case, I have used provider recording AND the Groundwire VOIP softphone to record important calls because I could not afford to not have that recording, and this gave me a backup in case one recording failed (which never hapenned).

also, voip.ms lets you make outgoing calls through it where your number is masked and your VOIP number is used instead. I really like the ability to not disclose my cell number, and to be able to use a easily replaced VOIP number instead, because we all know that your number will end up in someone's phone where Facebook, Google, etc. will grab it.

ifman13, I tried skvalex however during the setup there's a step where it says "Enable Call Recorder service in accessibility settings" but grapheneOS restricts editing that setting and says "For your security, this setting is currently unavailable" with no workaround or option to unrestrict it.

Is there any update on this, please?
As far as I can tell, android has built in call recording feature, the question is why is this disabled and how to enable it.
Can someone from awesome Graphene OS team please clarify this?

The PRIVILEGED (not restricted) access is a requirement for call recording. Being open source and fairly simple makes it NOT 3rd party and quite safe. The problem is that someone at grapheneos needs to be willing to audit the code (BCR) and include it in a safe manner.

This is super frustrating because call recording is LEGAL in some jurisdictions, and for certain purposes. Making it impossible to do a legal thing here because it's illegal somewhere else is crazy. That's like limiting the top speed of all cars because of speed limits somewhere else.

isnt this the case play store and play services too? not being priviliged in system was accomplished with compatibility shims. could this be replicated with a call recording app? include necessary shims so user installed call recording app could work? am i misunderstanding how shims work?
