The Kitchen also underwent a semi-reconfiguration of layout. We removed a wall that separated the kitchen from dining and created a fully open space. Which left us with the decision, use both spaces as one massive kitchen or make the dining feel independent, but connected and cohesive. We opted for independent but cohesive. Again a massive kitchen in a 114 year old home felt wrong, but the open flow still allowed for us to extend the kitchen footprint slightly, makes it feel larger and more roomy, without removing the charm of the formal dining space. Note: the view below will look a bit different (millwork, mantel color, sconces, chandelier, furniture etc. will be added/changed).

These kitchen renderings and space plan have been wildly helpful in helping finalize decisions with color, floor-plan. I cannot say enough good things about having them and our experience creating them with Unique Kitchen and Baths! This is not sponsored in any way but have been so happy with the process and wanted to share the resource we utilized for renderings.

This was the original plan for how I would organize my kitchen. I posted it here with more details on the layout and cabinetry design. You will see as I go through the post, it changed a bit when we unpacked and as we continue to live and work in the space.

This is the baking corner that looks to the backyard. Most of my photos for the blog and store are taken right here. The back porch overhang is the perfect filter for pretty light through these windows. Not only is cooking in this kitchen delightful, but working here is so much easier and more natural. I used to have to stage food and product photos in other parts of the house. Now it is a much more natural process for me to be able to take pretty photos as I go without having to change locations.

This is what the back of the drawer looks like. We had our electrician hardwire an outlet and powerstrip in the back of the drawer. So much better than this tangle of cords on top of the counter. We never open the drawer all of the way out, so we never see this cord mess unless we need to ; )

Baking Counter This corner of the kitchen works so well for me. I love that it is a couple of steps away from the rest of the kitchen. It gives me so much room to stretch out and get messy, and everything I need for baking is within arms reach.

Left to right : Kitchen Aid attachments, Copper Biscuit Cutter, Petite & Small Paper Tart Pans, Rubber Spatulas, measuring cups, Brown & White Cupcake Papers, Jumbo Pastry Tips, Scoops and Disposable Pastry Bags. These are my favorite Large Disposable Piping Bags to put muffin batter in. I make it ahead of time and keep them in the freezer. All of these items have recently been restocked in my store (found in Baking Supplies) this week.

During the summertime, I like our lives to stand still and away from the rest of the world. I think of that quintessential summer cottage that sits at the end of a shady lane somewhere, maybe next to the water, that is removed from time. I think of bare feet in the grass playing under the cherry tree, the smell of fresh laundry, lush green backyards with rose-scented air, over-stuffed beds with crisp white sheets layered with small print linens, slow mornings spent piddling in the kitchen and late sunset dinners on the patio.

The Garden Home Collection feels like this to me. It is a classic combination of blues and greens with hints of lilac and peony pink. I have baskets full of potted plants (thanks to Tessa of Nine and Sixteen for the inspiration), and cheerful stripes and checks that give that collected, charming look that a feels little country, but fresh and summery at the same time.

At Perry Homes, our kitchens offer sleek designs, marvelous countertops, roomy cabinets and updated appliances to give you the kitchen you've always dreamed of. As the heart of the home, our open concept kitchens allow for gathering together to make those special memories. We know the components that need to come together for you to be a master chef in the kitchen. Take a closer look at our homes' kitchens by clicking on each thumbnail in the gallery below and be prepared to enjoy the excellent kitchens that we have to offer.

When designing the kitchen, we wanted everything to feel earthy and organic. I love the texture of the terracotta tiles and the stucco walls, so instead of going with a modern kitchen, we incorporated more organic finishes like zellige tiles, rattan fixtures, and travertine accents. Zellige tiles are handcrafted from clay and have a unique look because each one is different with slight irregularities. I linked our favorites below!

The kitchen faucet is the Moen Smart Touchless Pull-Down Sprayer with Voice Control and Power Boost in Brushed Gold. We love it so much. The pulldown sprayer is nicely hidden and easy to use while the touchless sensor is great for food prep and kids!

Tina,

I too, love a white kitchen. The cabinets in the last picture that you showed us this morning would be a beautiful addition to a kitchen, especially if they have glass fronts and a lit from inside. I had designed my kitchen 15 years ago using white cabinets but had them installed with an acanthus crown above the cabinets. It gave it a bit of an European influence that is enough to give it a bit of casual elegance. I had installed medium brown beams that I had my carpenter beat them up and give them a nice amount of distressing that is a nice juxtaposition to the cabinets.

Having been is the industry my whole life, I have seen trends that come and go. Many people invest too much in trends that date themselves a few years later. Classic white cabinets have always been my love. Between my wood floors in the kitchen and my beams, there is plenty of contrast. I had a 10 inch backsplash installed that as I refer to it as the jewelry in the kitchen. It completes the look.

I have had my kitchen modified this past year by taking off the overhang on my peninsula and having a banquet seat made. I personally hated to look at a dirty kitchen while my husband and I sat eating our dinner. We live in a active adult community in Florida and our home is smaller that we had in the DC area. Follow your heart with your choices. Go with what works for you! Warmest regards.

YES, a White kitchen is Beautiful! I had my kitchen renovated 10 years ago and still love it. White cabinets, white thick quartz. Wow! The kitchen always feels great with many different colours of dishes, charger plates, flowers, silver, crystals etc. When I walk into my kitchen it always feels fresh and inviting.

A very timely post for me as we are starting our kitchen renovation process next month! I really thought I knew what I wanted but in the last few weeks as I have continued to look more intensely I realize that my ideas and thoughts are changing and this post has given me further proof of what I am zeroing in on! White with lots of glass- thank you thank you!

Such beautiful kitchens! we put a Christopher peacock kitchen in 3 years ago and I still love it. Love the kitchen with the dark trim, never would have thought to do that but what a great Intermatic dramatic lppl.

I think that the double islands are a sign of luxury and large space. Double or big islands are also great for big families and entertaining large parties. Or cooking shows or classes. But overall, I see that a white kitchen is the foundation of these wonderful countertops. On this website, I saw great ideas that can be used in luxurious designs. For example, some modern and post-modern styles have big islands with black countertops and agreeable light fixtures.

Rewind to the first week in our home. I said soapstone was my biggest mistake, but not my only mistake. Two words: YELLOW PAINT. Remember the paint tragedy I mentioned HERE? That yellow was killing my kitchen, in my opinion. It reminded me of a big bumble bee. I tried to convince myself that it would tone itself down in time (how does that happen? lol). That did not happen and the nausea grew inside me day by day with those yellow walls closing in on me. As you can see in the rest of the photos and now that you know what my kitchen looks like now, we repainted the walls with Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. SO.MUCH.BETTER!!!
