Members,

A decision was made to sell off the goats and subsequent requests to bring forth buyers/ potential buyers were made but no responses have been received. We met several interested buyers from the neibourhood and the best offer we have got for mature goats is 70k, 150k for the male and 30-45k for the small ones.
The goats are seriously emaciated and unless there is a better offer soon they will be sold at these prices - moreover, planting season is here and unless chama is willing to fence off the goats grazing area it is going to be extremely difficult for the crops to co-exist with the goats.

Attached is my claim of Ushs 542,500 for some of my crops destroyed by the goats.

A withdrawal of Ushs 552,500 is urgently required before workers strike for the following:
290k refund from previous email
60k watchman salary Jan
130k Peters salary Jan and food
10k water pumping   
62.5k -salt, amitix, drugs

I vote we sell them off to any willing buyer coz as it is they are just incurring unnecessary costs and giving nothing back.

Sell the goats and anything else that incurs a regular maintenance cost. The only asset to be retained should be the chama portion of land and fixed assets. For capital gains or leasehold income.

Madam chair I wish to be guided. Are all members still contributing actively?

On the claim by Nyokabi, we need a system for verification so that we are all confident that the damage was indeed caused by chama goats.

I propose that we proceed as per Article 13 of the Juhudi constitution and call an AGM to debate a motion on dissolution. This seems to be the inevitable fate of the Chama considering the changes that members have gone through (e.g. relocation) as well as the reduced enthusiasm in contributions and participation in chama activities.

I concur with Moses, an AGM will conclude our matters exhaustively. I would suggest that we have notice well in advance to ensure maximum attendance and if we fail to have a quorum to sit, we conduct the AGM on mail.

With regard to Nyokabi's claim, the workers confirmed that it was the goats that feasted on her crops. I think it would be fair for her to have the land for 5.5 Months since the land is meant to be leased at 100k per month.The season begins in February so please let us know when you hope to plow the land so that we can calculate from then.

I had proposed use of chama land as compensation for lost profit- which I had not quantified but can do so if members please. 100k was for use of chama assets including drip kits which am afraid if I start using now we may not be able to fetch a good price for it- now that we are going our separate ways.

Carol will be meeting with one guy interested in taking all the goats in the course of the week.

A meeting was called last time and only Benjamin and myself showed up and a few people bothered to respond to the mail. I suggest we meet after the goats have been sold- when all expenses have been computed and deducted from the account and everybody's share of the cash in the bank has been worked out. My proposal is that members get a cash refund and we wish each other the best- those who wish to form other chamas can do so.

It is easy to disburse the proceeds from sale of things like goats and from bank balances. We still must deliberate on the most efficient way of liquidating or sharing out the fixed assets i.e. the chama portion of land and developments therein. This is a matter that needs to be discussed at an AGM. I therefore take the view that sharing of the spoils must be agreed on via consensus or a vote at an AGM. Those of us outside Uganda can dial in via Skype.
